Omniflex Eases Mine Water License Compliance

Water Licenses require that the license holder will not harm the environment. Water quality is a key element requiring the operators to provide data to ensure compliance. Omniflex has tackled the challenges for this type of remote monitoring application.

Water Licenses carry a burden of proof that the license holder will not harm the environment and the riparian water system with its activities. This covers the use of water from the system and the responsible discharge of water back into the riparian system.  Water quality as part of Environmental responsibility is a key element to triple bottom line reporting with responsible water licensee operators needing to provide data for licensing authorities and compliance data for reporting. Omniflex has tackled the challenges for this type of remote monitoring application head on and has dealt with a number of key issues:

This type of project requires monitoring systems be installed at key sites geographically to track wastewater and mine water outflows back to the riparian system ensuring that the mine has a complete view of its discharge and treatment of waste water over its entire operation. Data collected is shared internally across the enterprise to processing plants and to a GIS system for open reporting and to Department of Water Affairs for transparency.

Any analytical measurements required can be incorporated into the system typically the following are required:

  • Flow Rate
  • Totalised Flow
  • Dissolved Oxygen
  • pH
  • Conductivity
  • Turbidity

Management Objectives
